Martha was born in a traditional village in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). She and her sisters and brothers were raised in a mud hut by their mother, a woman illiterate but wise. "Eduation is the key," Martha's mother told her children. Martha escaped the poverty and patriarchy of Zimbabwe through schooling, strength of will, and careful planning. Though her story is unique, its themes of hard work, struggle, and success are universal. After a nursing degree in Ireland, Martha made her way to America, where she fulfilled her dream of business ownership.

About the Author
Martha was raised in the 50s in Africa. After completing school and working in Zimbabwe, she moved to Ireland for a nursing degree and eventually moved to America for job opportunities. Today she operates a elder care facility in Northern California.

My mother's daughter

Full disclosure - Martha is a friend of mine! This is a wonderful story of persistence in the face of adversity. By sheer willpower Martha rose from a rural village in the African bush to running her own business in California. Despite personal tragedies she never faltered in her ambitions. It's an inspiring story that's well written and a lesson to all those who think life is unfair to them.
I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it.

This is a story that will inspire you because despite all the odds Martha made it. We all have different challenges in life but what matters is how we keep focused on achieving what we want in life. Great read!

My Mother's Daughter- So Inspirational!

We have far to few healthy and strong role models in this world; especially ones who face adversity and keep focused and true to their self assigned goals and aspirations... Matha Lovejoy tells a wonderful story about being born into a different culture and lifestyle than the one she dreams of. It helped so much that she had a loving Mom who wanted better for her children than she had and tells very strong and inspiring stories which Martha takes to heart.. Martha's strong spirit carries her through many hard times that try and derail her direction. I loved this story. I sent copies to a friend and my niece who I thought would benefit from reading it. Their responses were just what I expected...!! It was very empowering! Great thanks to this author for sharing her story so we could learn from it and take in the benfits of a healthy role model like Martha..
