Far removed from other forms of combat, grappling is the one-on-one embodiment of a physical altercation. Face-to-face, only the grittiest fighter with the strongest fortitude dares to call himself a grappler. The Grappler's Manifesto is the definitive instructional guide to this most brutal of all fighting styles. A grappler chooses not to avoid his opponent, or swiftly dispatch him at a distance, but charges headlong into his adversary, grinding him down until he collapses. The grappler prevails in close-quarter fights because of his indomitable spirit and unflinching willpower.
To become a true grappler requires technical acumen, but also the conviction to transform into a dispassionate warrior who simply keeps moving forward until the opponent yields. Calling upon the experience of the most methodical, ruthless, stoic fighters of our generation, The Grappler's Manifesto uses step-by-step color photographs and revealing narrative to illustrate exactly how the pros are able to flail their opponents on the mat and triumph over them in hand-to-hand combat. If you've ever wanted to know how to destroy an opponents' willpower and force him to surrender, you need this book.

Very Cool, But Not Earth Shattering
By Manjushri
This book is packed with grappling techniques that have proven their worth in MMA. Best of all, a range of excellent MMAists and MMA trainers show the little wrinkles and setups they use to make the techniques work. Anyone with any kind of grappling experience knows that the devil is in the details, and finding one or two small tips to tighten a technique can make all the difference in the world.
However, as solid as this information is, there's not a lot new here for someone who is an intermediate or above level grappler already. There are no "game changing" concepts or positions. All you need to do is look at the contributors list: Jon Fitch, Greg Jackson, Forrest Griffin, and Randy Couture are all great, but they aren't exactly Marcelo Garcia, Dean Lister, Robert Drysdale and Andre Galvao. Perhaps this book should have been called "MMA Grappling."
If you are new to grappling or primarily interested in MMA, this book is a gold mine. If you are experienced and primarily interested in straight grappling/ BJJ, it might still be worth a pick up, but I would advise you to look through it at a book store before deciding it's worth it for you.
On a complete side note, what's with the duct tape/ ransom note thing? It probably confirms that the books target audience is kids who are just getting into grappling.

Your typical "all-star" instructional
By Cpl. Hicks
Did not have high expectations, ordered this book because it was on sale.
What you get is techniques from various MMA fighters; covering basic positions (mount, guard, north-south etc.) There aren't any flashy techniques and the book layout is nice, making the presented ones easy to understand.
I have been wrestling/grappling for more than 10 years and I wasn't expecting to learn anything new; what I did get was a reminder that I could bring back a couple of techniques from this book to my repertoaire.
This is one of those books you should get if it is on clearance and go thru it to refresh you memory.

THE GRAPPLER'S MANIFESTO
The Guide to Strangling, Torquing & Bludgeoning
Your Way to Victory in the Cage

It's hard to believe the human body consists of just a head, torso, two arms, and two legs. And yet there seem to be an infinite number of ways to tie up your opponent and submit or choke him out.
Just when you think you've seen every conceivable move, a book like this comes along and pulls the mats from under you. UK's Geoff Thompson often says "With ability comes humility", and The Grappler's Manifesto is a book that could humble any fighter with its revolutionary techniques.
When you first flick through Lance Freimuth's book it's like sitting in the Millennium Falcon's cockpit and thinking "Okay, we've done the Milky Way, now let's start the journey." But what a crew you're riding with! Onboard are Randy Couture, Antonio Nogueira, Greg Jackson, Forrest Griffin, Dave Camarillo, Neil Melanson and Jon Fitch, plus author Freimuth who taught grappling at the renowned Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand and was a wrestling instructor at Randy Couture's Xtreme Couture MMA gym in Las Vegas.
The Grappler's Manifesto's 347 pages of instruction will beam your ground game way past any opponent's out there and send you into MMA hyperspace as you put into practice never-before-seen grappling tactics. What a blast!
