From a deckhand who was there,this is one terrific book.

In one of my past incarnations,I was a deckhand on one of the tugs mentioned in your book,the Baleen.I not only was a crewmen on the Baleen,I was on her when she went down.Having spent a good portion of my life on tugs,I found this book to be an inciteful look into the world of tugs and towing.A must for all lovers of the sea and tugboats in particular. I wouldn't pick this up for new readers, too soon

This "30 years later" is part of a longer arc called the "X years later" of the sonic comic.

as of now, there is probably 4 arcs of this series (3 of which have been told)

It goes

25 years later (ends with king sonic going to the past)
Whatever the situation King Sonic deals with *has not been shown what exactly the situation it is*
King Shadow (Sonic returns everything to normal, but at the cost of erasing himself from time- thus much has changed)
30 years later (which it's this book collection consist of)

So the main problem here is that this is the last portion of the "XYL" story; which brings the whole story to a full circle, but the other parts are not collected into a book. So it isn't exactly the best part for someone who doesn't know the previous incident to just jump in; but good end for those that like the arc.

I personally like it, just wished archie put together the other stuff together first

Fun Stuff

Ian Flynn's the main writer for both Sonic and Sonic Universe, and he knows how to work a pen. His plots are character-driven, and the action solid.

30 years later is a fun little story that takes place, obviously, a couple years down the road, and seeing the next gen of the characters is entertaining. Knuckle's daughter Lara-Su takes center stage alongside 'King' Sonic, and the bionic swashbuckling kids of Bunny and Antoine are my two favs. The arc has some parts that reference past stories (there was a 25 year later story in the comics that proceeded this one, which'll hopefully be collected at some point and tells you what's the deal with the evil ex-King Shadow in the basement), but if you don't sweat the details it's not too hard to follow. It definitely doesn't hurt to be familiar with the comic's cast, mind you.

Due to said minor issue that may cause a lil confusion, I give it a 4, but it's still much more good than bad.

If you like Sonic and What-If stories, I recommend picking this volume up!

The only good Laura Su chronicle

If I'm being honest here, I've always hated "this is the future" storylines, and I think Sonic being a King is one of the worst possible things that could happen in any Sonic canon. But somehow I managed to enjoy this little story, with a nice little treat for fans of Sonic Adventure.

This mostly centers around Laura Su, Knuckles Daughter. While Ken Penders OC may seem like a frightening concept, Ian Flynn manages to make her very likeable, and drawn the way a Sonic character should be. So rest easy on that.

Fascinating Exploration of the Fox in Human Culture

Throughout Martin Wallen's book, "Fox," the author demonstrates how the fox has long been viewed by humans as an ambiguous creature living on the boundaries of civilized society. Just as a fox evades capture in the hunting field through its wit and cleverness, the fox also escapes simple definition.

Each of the six chapters reads as an individual essay. The opening chapter deals with efforts to classify the fox over time, beginning with the philosopher Aristotle, who believed foxes to be literally made of earth. Many creatures throughout the world share the name and the general appearance of "fox" - from the Arctic fox to the South American culpeo to the African fennec - but vary greatly in behavior and habitat.
Another chapter explores the fox in legend and myth in both Western and Eastern cultures. In Western thought, the fox is often a malevolent being, both trickster and thief living on the edges of society. Wallen recounts the fox in Aesop's Fables, the Reynard legend from medieval France, and early Christian and medieval depictions of the fox as the devil in disguise. The legend of the kitsune, or spirit fox, migrated to medieval Japan from China, and kitsune possess the ability to shapeshift into human form, thus crossing the boundaries between man and animal and the spirit and material worlds. Subsequent chapters deal with the topics of foxhunting, the commercial fur industry, and the metaphor of the fox in twentieth-century cinema.

In his chapter on foxhunting, Wallen traces the evolution of the sport and the way it was portrayed in English art and literature. While eighteenth century depictions emphasized the violent death of the fox, emphasis shifted over time until the pageantry and rules of the sport became more important than the actual capture and death of the animal.

Martin Wallen's carefully-crafted book gives readers an appreciation of this mysterious animal that has excited human imagination.

Excellent survey of the lives and lore of foxes

It was Wallen's fine book on foxes that introduced me to Reaktion's excellent Animal series, and I've been a huge fan ever since. This is definitely my favourite volume in the series. Well written, thoughtfully considered, and insightful. His writing style is engaging and illuminating, and he never talks down to readers--he's a careful and astute scholar, an accessible writer, and an impressive observer of both the natural world and human interactions with it. Like all books in the series, it takes up natural as well as cultural history, and Wallen manages the balance with exceptional skill. You'll never look at foxes the same way again! In fact, I was inspired to try my own hand at a volume in the series as a result of Wallen's contribution, so I'm particularly grateful for the inspiration of *Fox*.

Some readers have been a bit put off by a couple of the graphic photos (even though there are over 100 images in the book), but I think it's a shame to dismiss this fine and engaging study for those reasons. Yes, there are two gruesome images, but the reality is that in addition to inspiring much beautiful art and spiritual beliefs, foxes also suffer terrible abuse at the hands of humans--that's part of the context that Wallen writes about. We can't understand foxes or their symbolism without also understanding the terrible price they pay for being so fascinating to humans. I get squeamish at these images, too, but they represent a powerful truth, and we owe it to the animal and to ourselves to face these things directly.

A well-informed and well-written book that avoids Disney-esque simplicity and takes up the full complexity of these marvellous animals. Highly recommended!

You'll never be outfoxed again.

This is the "Animal" series formula, mixing some natural history, culture, legend, the arts, and exploitation of the animal, engagingly written and excellently illustrated. The formula works again, and I must like it because I have read dozens of books in the series.

Perhaps the most interesting chapter is on fox hunting, one that gives some history of the hunt and its current status. The chapters are The Fox in Nature; Vulpine Myth, Folk Tales and Allegory; The Linguistic Fox; Fox Hunters; The Commercial Fox; 20th Century Fox and the Cinema. These cover evolution and natural history, distinguish the separate varieties of fox (21 species!), the fox as pest, as fable (as in The Fox and the Grapes), as hunted, as source of furs. This last is the saddest fox.

It's easy to forget the cultural fox, but remember phrases such as foxy lady, the old fox, to outfox someone and many others.

The British exploited and enhanced their media power and propaganda expertise to keep up with the superpowers and preserve their own global influence at a time when British economic, political and military power was sharply declining. This activity directly influenced domestic media relations, as officials used British media to launder foreign-bound propaganda and to create the desired images of British "public opinion" for foreign audiences.

By the early 1950s censorship waned but covert propaganda had become addictive. The endless tension of the Cold War normalized what had previously been abnormal state involvement in the media, and led it to use similar tools against Egyptian nationalists, Irish republicans and British leftists. Much more recently, official manipulation of news about Iraq indicates that a behind-the-scenes examination of state propaganda's earlier days is highly relevant.

John Jenks draws heavily on recently declassified archival material for this book, especially files of the Foreign Office's anti-Communist Information Research Department (IRD) propaganda agency, and the papers of key media organisations, journalists, politicians and officials. Readers will therefore gain a greater understanding of the depth of the state's power with the media at a time when concerns about propaganda and media manipulation are once again at the fore.

About the Author
Hermann Kopetz received his PhD in physics "sub auspiciis praesidentis" from the University of Vienna, Austria in 1968. After eight years in Industry he accepted in 1978 an appointment as a Professor for Computer Process Control at the Technical University of West-Berlin, moving to the Technical University of Vienna in 1992. Kopetz is a full member of the Austrian Academy of Science, Fellow of the IEEE, and is a member of the Information Society Advisory Group (ISTAG), advising the European Commission in Brussels in the domain of information technology since 2008. In June 2007 he received the honorary degree of Dr. honoris causa from the University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France. Kopetz is the chief architect of the time-triggered technology for dependable embedded Systems and a co-founder of the company TTTech. The time-triggered technology is deployed in leading automotive and aerospace applications and has been selected by NASA for the Orion Spacecraft.

A useful book on time-triggered techniques

I found this book very useful. Despite the general title, Hermann Kopetz is mainly concerned with time-triggered techniques. This approach is becoming increasing popular with developers of real-time systems because it has been found to result in very predictable system behavior and, hence, can help to improve system reliability. This book was one of the first to be published in this area. It provides a considerable amount of useful information.

Outstanding for both practitioners and students

This book is exactly what I have been waiting for.

I started to work as a programmer for Boeing in 1985, went to grad school, worked at a research lab, then am in the academe. Along the way, I have gotten exposed to real-time computing in bits and pieces on a good number of projects. But none of them required me to get very deep into real-time computing, and I have never had a class in it. But I have been meaning to learn more, and in a systematic way, for some time.

So, from that context, it was with great anticipation that I learned of Prof. Kopetz's new edition (2ed). He is without question one of the top researchers in the area of fault-tolerant real-time computing, based on his long record of publishing in DSN and other top publication venues. He has worked with the auto industry literally for decades, and has recently branched out. So is is very applied and "down to earth". Ergo, my anticipation.

This book did not disappoint this applied practitioner, researcher, and instructor. It had the gamut of topics, with a focus on time-triggered technologies, ranging from global time, models, fault-tolerance, real-time communication, real-time operating systems, and scheduling. All concrete and "meaty" topics. There were also a number of topics that seem very important to architecting and engineering a real-time system, including simplicity (that one surprised me, but made a lot of sense in hindsight), system design, and validation. It also had good material on very timely applied research concerns: an entire chapter on the "Internet of Things" (IoT), and "cyber-physical systems" issues were spread throughout the book.

I strongly recommend this book for either practitioners who, like me, need or want to learn more about real-time systems (and more systematically than one could learn by a smattering of tutorial and research papers). I also would recommend it for a senior undergraduate or a graduate class. Indeed, I may use it for half of the material in a seminar class next school year, depending on how I decide what topics I really want to cover.

As a graduate student,I used this book for work on real time communication and time triggered architecture.I must say,the book is very well organised and easy to read. The concepts presented in this book are all practical and very helpful for real time system practioners. This book also helps students to gain overall understanding of the real time systems and ongoing research projects. I found the chapters on Real time model, real time communication and time triggered architecture very helpful for my research and the case studies on different time triggered architecture were very useful. If you are looking to dive into real time systems or taking a course on real time concepts or want to enhance your knowledge on real time system to take your research to next level, I highly recommend this book for you.

Easy to follow and apply.

I bought this book while it is on kindle promotion.

As the author of a set of parenting ebooks myself, it's been refreshing to read this book. Iovana gives clear and concise examples throughout this book and I felt myself agreeing completely with most of what she has written. She has made it easy for any parent to recognise where he or she can improve his or her parenting skills.

The book is a short and comfortable read and I suggest, that for this reason, parents read through this book every now and again to solidify the skills offered here. I will go as far as to say that, if you follow the advice offered in this book and you don't feel you are getting results, it will only be because you haven't been able to be consistent enough. Hang in there it is more that worth it.

Parenting book, that really helps...

It's really hard to rise discipline child this time. Especially, if you have not any proven strategy or system how to do it. This parenting book provides a great examples, that can help you build this system. You will find, that it's really simple to raise autonomous and cooperative children, that will love you and will be thankful in the future.

A Must Read Guide for Parenting

My husband recommended me this book because sometime I get overwhelmed while dealing with my 3 kids who are all under 9.

1. Do you unintentionally attach label to your kids which dictates their behavior, actions, thinking, emotions, etc?
2. Do you want to learn an eye-opening focus on the common and harmful ways parents talk to and disciple their little ones?
3. Do you want to know what could be your alternatives to yelling and punishment?

Well then this is the book that answers all your concerns in effective and efficient manner. My favorite part of the book is 20 rules that parents need to follow for loving and gentle authority.

This book helped me develop some strong insights and confidence with its ready implement suggestions while dealing with many known situations as a mother of three I have to face on daily basis.

Thank you Iovana for writing this short and sweet book, it helped :)
