About the Author
Lawrence G. Hrebiniak, Ph.D., has emeritus status at the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Hrebiniak was a member of the faculty of the Department of Management of The Wharton School for 36 years, where he taught courses in strategic management in the Wharton M.B.A. and Executive Education Programs. He still is very active in the Wharton Executive Education arena, teaching and working with managers in the area of strategy implementation or execution.

Dr. Hrebiniak held managerial positions in the automobile industry prior to entering academia, which provided him with valuable real-world experience. He is a past President of the Organization Theory Division of the Academy of Management. For more than two years he was one of a handful of Wharton faculty members providing commentaries on the Wharton Management Report, a TV program on the Financial News Network.

Professor Hrebiniak’s most notable research of late has been in the area of strategy execution. He has consulted with or participated in executive development work with scores of companies, profit and not-for-profit alike, both inside and outside the U.S. He facilitated many of Jack Welch’s legendary “Work-Outs.” Based on his research and experience with strategy implementation, he developed integrated processes that help make strategy work in different organizations, across different industry settings. He is still active as a researcher and consultant.

Dr. Hrebiniak has authored seven books and numerous professional articles. This book, the second edition of the bestselling Making Strategy Work , reflects his experience as a manager, consultant, and educator in creating a culture of execution and facilitator of the execution process in complex organizations.

Constraints to Execution

This book was awesome! Lawrence produced work not just from his practice as a consultant but as professor at Wharton with data to back up his claims. As both an entrepreneur with a background in research, for years I looked with curiosity at how one after the other 'great' strategies failed and how little work has been spent on researching how to adapt and execute the strategies. Also, I was curious how firms get others involved in the strategy planning especially when the organization is huge (GE, Microsoft, IBM etc) to get commitment as well as match assumptions. Lawrence does indeed speak about here.

Managers have almost a repulsion to mapping strategies with current reality obstacles or habitual organizational patterns that may act as constraints to execution. This is a good book to bring awareness to the issue as well as solutions.

Tony Gaddis is the lead author of the Starting Out with series including Starting Out with Alice, C++, Java™, Visual Basic� 2008, Programming Logic & Design, and Python. The best book for C++

I am a computer Science student. Like any other computer science curriculum , C++ is the main programming language that is taught in any University .This is an excellent book for anyone who is starting to learn C++ programming. The language , examples and the content of this book are better than any book available in the market . I actually learned C++ reading this book , as prior to this i had no experience in programming. This book will teach you everything that u need to know in C++ programming. Well ofcourse C++ is really vast , you really dont need to know everything that is on the book , so anyone who buys this book should get a syllabus or discuss it with someone who has had prior experience in C++ programming to what to study or what not to .
Highly recommended if you are serious about becoming a programmer.

Best C++ book ever

Well, My English is not native so I will not write a story.
I will just say that this is the best book you will ever find on C++.
I tried few books on C++ before and I find this book well written, great (and working) examples, great flow charts
and the best approach for explaining the materials.

Tony Gaddis did it again.

When The Best Little Boy in the World was first published in 1973, Andrew Tobias could write about what it had felt like to begin to accept his homosexuality, but he couldn't bring himself to sign his own name to the book, for fear of embarrassing his parents. And so it was "John Reid" who became a hero to the thousands of gay males who found in this memoir a mirror for their own experiences.

Although the book appears rambling at times, Tobias always has a clear sense of where he wants to take readers with the story. He treats his closeted adolescence and college years, and his stumbling first attempts at "doing a thing" with other gay men, with a self-effacing humor that exposes his pain without descending into self-pity. And if his life seems fairly ordinary, apart from the sexual awakening ... well, that was the whole point. "You like and respect us when you don't realize we're gay," he writes in a new introduction, "so now please just continue to like and respect us once you do realize. It's not that big a deal."

It's still true.

I picked this book up last night and couldn't stop reading. I thought mine was a unique journey, but it's not. Mr. Tobias has already been there - about twenty five years ago. If you have a similar background - WASP, upper middle class upbringing, sports oriented - you'll likely find yourself in this book. Sure, he disparages other types of gay men, but that's what's so honest - he's telling you how he really feels, whether it's p.c. or not. Too many books about coming out tell you some perfect version of how you should feel.
My story is very much like this one, a long struggle within myself, a lot of dodging (the story about faking hookups with girls in college hit so close that my hands started shaking, as did the sinking feeling after college when everyone starts pairing up and getting married). Sure some things have changed since the 1970s, but a whole lot has not. The emotions and coping mechanisms for someone like myself are all still the same.
Coming out (recently) has been a struggle, mostly within myself. This book, since I relate to the author's socioeconomic background, carried a charge of recognition like nothing I've ever read before. This book has given me the hope to keep moving forward.

Extremely helpful

This is a must read for anyone applying to residency. I am finishing up my 3rd year and wish I had read it in 1st or 2nd year. It gives excellent strategic advice (including getting exposure EARLY) and includes a great synopsis of the NRMP match data. It covers all of the important, stress-inducing components of the residency preparation and application process. This book will help you know what questions to ask and how to best use your resources for success. Highly recommend.

A Good Blueprint for Four, Crucial Years

Most American medical schools have great advising and truly care about how their students perform in the residency match. That being said, this book still serves as a solid tool for entering medical students wishing to get somewhat of a head start prior to matriculation. It allows you to really hone in on what you need to do and challenges you to be proactive in deciding your eventual specialty while building your CV accordingly. The most invaluable sources for residency advice are, of course, residency directors of programs you are interested in. But before you meet them, peruse this book and know what kind of questions you need to be cognizant of to make yourself stand out in the match.
